Greek Awards and Greek Week
Continue to main contentJoin a family filled with traditions: you’ll do that here.
The fraternity and sorority community at Southeast Missouri State University has had a long and rich history. We honor that history and their accomplishments with an array of awards.
The Five Star Chapter Program provides organizations the opportunity to be recognized with “star standing” in five key areas of chapter operations:
- Academic Success
- Chapter Management
- Membership Development and Education
- Civic and Community Engagement
- Harm Reduction/Risk Management

Use of Five Star Chapter Program
The Five Star Chapter Program focuses on the actions chapters take and the structure they have in place to support their organization. Chapters are required to submit data for the Five Star Chapter Program or to formally notify the Office of Greek Life they do not intend to participate.
Star standing in each of the areas is based upon a set of pertinent criteria. The star standings will be determined by the following point value:
- Five Star Chapters - Chapters attaining 90% or more of possible points
- Four Star Chapters – Chapters attaining 75% - 89% of possible points
- Three Star Chapters – Chapters attaining 60% - 74% of possible points
- Two Star Chapters – Chapters attaining 41% - 59% of possible points
- One Star Chapters – Chapters attaining 26% – 40% of possible points
- Chapter Non-Conforming - Chapters scoring less than 25% of the eligible points or failing to submit any information for the Five Star Chapter Program
Fraternal Excellence Award
The Fraternal Excellence Award recognizes chapters that excel across all categories of the Five Star Awards program. Individual chapters that receive more points across all categories, when compared to the average points earned for all chapters, are recognized as a Fraternal Excellence award chapter. The Fraternal Excellence Award represents the very best in overall chapter operations and serves as a role model chapter at Southeast. The award is presented each spring as part of the All-Greek Chapter meeting.
Evaluation
The submitted materials are reviewed by a panel of faculty and professional staff at Southeast Missouri State University or invited professionals with experience in Greek Life and/or who work with student organizations at a college or university. Each submission is reviewed by three panelists and the average of the three scores will be the score for each item/section. Reviewers are asked to provide written feedback with their scores. Any dispute between panelists will be resolved by the Office of Greek Life.

Greek Week
Greek Week is an opportunity to shed the stereotype that Greek Life is all too familiar with. It is about showing loyalty to others beyond our own chapters and having the personal courage to help our community, while celebrating our Southeast Greek community. This week reinforces the role our different organizations play in coming together to be part of something bigger; the opportunity to foster a change, to impact a group of people and become closer as a community along the way.
Order of Omega
Order of Omega is a National, Greek Honor society that recognizes the exceptional academic and leadership accomplishments of the Greek community. This honor society represents the top 3% of the Greek community, and all members have leadership positions in their own chapters along with other campus organizations, as well. Throughout the year, Order of Omega is involved with Greek Week preparations and participates in community service opportunities. The mission of the order is to recognize those fraternity men and women who have attained a high standard of leadership in Interfraternity activities, to encourage them to continue along this line, and to inspire others to strive or similar conspicuous attainment. The order brings together outstanding fraternity men and women to create an organization that will help to mold the sediment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate fraternity affairs and to bring together members of the faculty, alumni, and student members of the institution’s fraternities and sororities on a basis of mutual interest, understanding and helpfulness.
Rho Lambda
Rho Lambda was founded in 1962 on the campus of the University of Miami to serve as a counterpart to the Order of Omega, which at the time was only open to fraternity members. In 1974, Rho Lambda received permission to become a National Panhellenic Recognition Honor Society. The purpose of Rho Lambda is to honor women within the sorority community who have exhibited the highest qualities of leadership and service to their Fraternity and Sorority community. These women have furthered the ideals and principles of their sorority and the community throughout their years of sorority affiliation. The Southeast Missouri State University Gamma Gamma chapter of Rho Lambda is looking to recolonize and is recruiting new members to uphold the tradition of excellence and service. The maximum number of members to be elected in any year is 10% of the total Panhellenic membership.
