Family Weekend at Southeast is designed for families to experience University traditions, be a part of campus and sporting events, and immerse in the culture of SEMO with your students.

SATURDAY, September 16

9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Visit the Charles L. Hutson Greenhouse for The Mummas and Pawpaws Fall Fest. There will be fall mums and pumpkins for sale, a Master Gardeners seminar, walking tours of the Nemanick Gardens, pawpaw refreshments, food trucks, and more! 
The greenhouse is located at 1039 Bertling Street. It is open to the public all year. Call (573) 651-2316 for more information. 

11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Family-friendly activities, in and around the University Center. Compete with or against your student in physical challenges or trivia. Make school spirit friendship bracelets to wear to the football game later in the day. 

11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Kent Library activities including button-making, book-in-a-jar contest, matching games, and a photo booth!

Family Picnic with a Visit from the Vargases

Tours of Academic Hall Dome

Have you ever wondered how far you can see from the top of the Dome in Academic Hall? Attend one of the tours and find out. Tours end promptly at 3:00, so be sure to come early!

1 - 4 p.m.
RPG Mini Figures Painting Workshop
Hosted by the Crisp Museum at our River Campus. Participants will receive two mini figures to paint during the workshop. Supplies are provided. The workshop runs from 1 p.m. til 4 p.m. on both September 16 and 17 with a limit of 10 participants per session. Individual preregistration is required by September 15, 2023. This workshop is free for all SEMO students, faculty, and staff. A $5.00 fee is required for family members. Email museum@semo.edu or call 573-651-2660 for more information or to register.

Football tailgate in front of Houck Stadium
Kick off the football game with appearances by the Southeast Missouri State Marching Band, Sundancers, Cheerleaders, and Rowdy! Also cheer on the football team as they stroll around the stadium in the Redhawk Walk two hours prior to kickoff. Personal tailgating space is available in the Wehking Alumni Center parking lots.

Symphony Sampler
Cultural Arts Center - River Campus
A light-hearted introduction to the symphony, featuring student musicians from the symphony in a variety of chamber ensembles. Admission is free!

Riverfront Market
A downtown farmer's market hosted by Old Town Cape, featuring local produce and farm goods, artisan crafts, hot foods, art and live music. The market is located at 35 S. Spanish Street. 

9 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.
SEMO District Fair
The fair is open all day for rides, games, food, agricultural exhibits, and live entertainment. The Grandstand event on Saturday is a demolition derby at 6 p.m.

10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Board and Brush SEMO Make and Take
Board and Brush is a SEMO alumni owned business. A walk-in Make and Take workshop is open for families to visit Downtown Cape Girardeau and DIY. There are various project sizes and costs ($3-$25 per project). Board and Brush Cape Girardeau is a Southeast Missouri State University licensed estblishment and will have a Redhawk design for students and families to create!

10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
A Day on the River 

Hosted by the Cape County Conservation Nature Center at the Riverfront Park. 
Discover what the river has to offer you! Hands-on activities will teach you the importance of the Mississippi River and surrounding wetlands. This event is fun for the entire family featuring live river animals and free boat rides on the Mississippi with Missouri Department of Conservation river scientists. Boat rides are first come, first serve. This event is located at Riverfront Park depending on river levels.

9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
45th Manifolds on Main Street Car Show
Sponsored by River City Rodders Car Club and Old Town Cape. This is the largest car show between St. Louis and Memphis. Over 250 cars and trucks will be displayed along Main Street and in the downtown parking lot across from Hutson's Big Sandy Superstore.
