How to Apply
All students will need to submit their application through the ATCAS portal. Students will also need to complete a separate application for the Southeast Missouri State University Graduate School.
Application Fees
ATCAS charges a $93 fee for your first application, however there is a fee assistance program for qualified applicants (See ATCAS Fee and Waiver section).
Southeast Missouri State University does not charge an application fee for domestic students. International Students must pay an application fee of $40 prior to November 1 or $60 after November 1. Please visit the Graduate Studies website for more information.
Official College/University Transcripts
Official transcripts from every institution you have attended should be submitted directly to the ATCAS following the instructions provided within the application.
International Students
International students are required to submit additional documentation in their application. Requirements for international admission can be found on the International Admissions website and include a TOEFL minimum score of 79.
Observation Hours
Students applying for admittance into the MSAT program will be required to provide documentation of a minimum of 25 hours of observation experience completed at the time of application. These hours are to be completed under the supervision of a current practicing licensed and/or certified athletic trainer. These observation hours must be completed after high school graduation. The MSAT program accepts observation experiences from a variety of settings (e.g., collegiate athletics, high school sports, performing arts, clinic settings).
The hours can be documented on this observation hours form and uploaded to ATCAS or your supervising athletic trainer can write a letter for you that indicates the dates and time that you performed observation hours and upload that form to ATCAS
Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation must be submitted directly to ATCAS. The MSAT prefers that at least one of the recommendations be from an athletic trainer with whom you have observed or previously interacted with. The second letter of recommendation should be from an athletic trainer, faculty member in a college/university level pre-requisite course, or employer/supervisor. Please do not utilize family members or MSAT faculty members at Southeast Missouri State University as a professional reference.
Non-Discrimination Statement
Faculty, preceptors, and students in the Southeast Missouri State University MSAT program strive to foster an inclusive environment that recognizes the contributions and supports the advancement of all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, religion, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by federal or state law. Prospective students will be evaluated for admission based on their application materials and will not be discriminated against based on any of the aforementioned characteristics. For more information on Southeast Missouri State’s commitment to diversity and inclusion please visit their website.
ATCAS Fee and Waiver Application
Beginning at the start of the annual application cycle, a limited number of fee waivers are provided to qualified applicants from The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) on a first-come, first-served basis. Each fee waiver covers only the initial application fee of $93, so if you wish to apply to additional programs, you are responsible for the remaining balance ($55 per application to additional programs). If you received a fee waiver during a previous cycle, you may still apply for another in the next cycle.
You may request a fee waiver as soon as you create an application, but keep in mind that fee waiver funds can be quickly depleted. Contact customer service at 617-612-2075 before you submit a fee waiver request to determine if waivers are still available. Fee waiver applications can be found by accessing the ATCAS Website.

The institution will be submitting a self-study to begin the accreditation process on July 1, 2024. Submission of the self-study and completion of an on- site review does not guarantee that the program will become accredited. Students who graduate from the program prior to accreditation WILL NOT be eligible to sit for the credentialing examination for athletic trainers and will not be eligible for licensure in most states.”
