Fall 2023-Spring 2024 Room Selection Guide

How to complete Room Selection 

  • Go to MySoutheast.
  • Select Tools View All.  
  • Open Life at SEMO section by clicking on the arrow.  
  • Click on Load more until you see Residence Life Housing Portal. (click star to add to shortcuts)
  • Sign in with your SE Key and Password. 
  • Select "Residence Life Housing Portal"
  • Select “New” (Never lived on campus) or “Returning Students.”  (Currently on campus)
  • Select the “Room Selection” tab.  (This will not be available until your approved selection date)
  • Follow the steps within the form.

Private Room and Single Room Lottery

Private Room

Returning students who have submitted a Fall 23/Spring 24 contract by January 31, 2023, will eligable to enter into the Private Room Lottery.

  • An email will be sent to students who qualify on February 1st.
  • Students will have between February 1-3 to respond if they want to be part of the lottery.
  • Students will be notified if they have received a Private Room and steps to select their room by email.
  • Private Room Selection for these students will be February 14-18. 
  • There are a limited amount of spaces in each residence hall.

Single Room

Returning students who have submitted a Fall 23/Spring 24 contract by January 31, 2023, will eligible to enter into the Single Room Lottery.

  • An email will be sent to students who qualify on February 7st.
  • Students will have between February 7-11 to respond if they want to be part of the lottery.
  • Students will be notified if they have received a Single Room and steps to select their room by email.
  • Single Room Selection for these students will be February 21-25. 
  • Single rooms are all in Towers South or East community style and are limited.

Special Interest Housing 

Students accepted into Special Interest Housing (or Learning Communities) may select a room in their specific community starting on March 1, 2023, through March 4, 2023 (first wave), and May 1, 2023, through May 5, 2023 (second wave). This selection process is different so students will receive special instructions on the wave they are in and selecting their Special Interest Housing room through their Southeast email. Students no longer interested in being part of the Special Interest Housing community will need to email learningcommunities@semo.edu to let the coordinator know.

Returning Student Room Self-Selection Information 

April 20, 2023 – The housing contract must be submitted, and the deposit must be paid, and/or waived by this date to participate in room selection. 

  • Students' assigned room selection date is based on their contract completion date and suitemate groupings.  
  • After this date, students submitting their contract and deposit will be assigned a room by Residence Life staff. 
Tier I 
  • Qualification: Returning students who have submitted the housing contract and deposit by December 31, 2022. 
  • Room Selection Date: March 20 - April 21, 2023 
Tier II 
  • Qualification: Returning students who have submitted the housing contract between January 1 - February 28, 2023 
  • Room Selection Date: March 27th - April 21, 2023 
Tier III 
  • Qualification: Returning students  who have submitted the housing contract between March 1 - April 20, 2023 
  • Room Selection Date: April 3 – April 21, 2023 

Tier IV

  • Qualification: Students eligible for self-selection who do not choose a room during their allotted timeframe and students who submit a housing contract and deposit after April 20, cannot select their room but can be pulled into a room by a roommate during their roommate's selection time, provided the roommate/suitemate grouping has not already selected a room. 
  • Residence Life Assigned Room Selections: April 25 throughout the summer, where space permits.  

 New Student Room Self-Selection Information 

April 30, 2023 – The housing contract must be submitted, and the deposit must be paid, and/or waived by this date to participate in room selection. 

  • Students' assigned room selection date is based on their contract completion date and suitemate groupings.  
  • After this date, students submitting their contract and deposit will be assigned a room by Residence Life staff. 

Suitemate Groups 

  • Qualification: Students who have completed an entire suitemate grouping of FOUR students and all suitemates have completed the contract and deposit process.
  • Suite Selection Date: May 8 - May 12, 2023
  • This selection period is for new students that have a four-person grouping. Students with only a two-person pairing will self-select by Tier dates listed below. 
Tier I 
  • Qualification: Students not in a suitemate group who have submitted the housing contract and deposit by December 31, 2022. 
  • Room Selection Date: May 15 - June 2, 2023
Tier II 
  • Qualification: Students not in a suitemate group who have submitted the housing contract between January 1 - February 28, 2023
  • Room Selection Date: May 22 - June 2, 2023 
Tier III 
  • Qualification: Students not in a suitemate group who have submitted the housing contract between March 1 - April 30, 2023
  • Room Selection Date: May 29 – June 2, 2023

Tier IV

  • Qualification: Students eligible for self-selection who do not choose a room during their allotted timeframe and students who submit a housing contract and deposit after April 30, cannot select their room but can be pulled into a room by a roommate during their roommate's selection time, provided the roommate/suitemate grouping is set up before the roommate selecting a room. 
  • Residence Life Assigned Room Selections: June 5 throughout the summer, where space permits.  

 Room Change Request after Selection/Assignment 

  • Room change request: Can be made starting June 5, waitlist and room changes will end August 1 so the Residence Life staff can focus on ensuring all students have been placed into a room assignment.
  • The room change request will reopen the 2nd week of classes.
  • Reminder: Room availability can change from hour to hour, there is no guarantee all requests will be filled.

Housing Contract Cancellation 

Returning students canceling a housing contract before room selection opens will not be charged a penalty fee. However, students that cancel their housing contract after room selection but before finals week will be charged a $150 cancellation fee. Cancelations after May 12, 2023, will be assessed a cancelation fee based on the reason for cancellation. 

New students canceling a housing contract are charged based on rates listed on the Contract for University Housing. Additional cancellation costs are assessed based on the date of cancellation and the reason for the cancellation.
