Have fun while performing: you’ll do that here.

If you have an interest in music, or are wanting to begin exploring the art of musical instruments, consider taking part in one of our educational courses or festivals to expand your skills and have fun! Many of the events and festivals offered at Southeast Missouri State University through the Department of Music are available to individuals ranging in age from youth to adult. There is a variety of specific instrument instructional days, competitions, and annual musical festivals. We have something for everyone including education for children, community members, high school students, and college students interested in developing or perfecting their skills in musical arts.

Festivals and Special Music Days

Clark Terry/Phi Mu Alpha Jazz Festival

The Clark Terry/Phi Mu Alpha Jazz Festival is an annual event which provides resources for the development of jazz ensembles and professional development for jazz educators.

Brass Day

Brassists of all ages are invited to join us at Brass Day. With professional instruction from featured guest artists and Southeast faculty, attendees can expect to receive valued education to perfect their skills in horns.

String Day

String Day is a new event offered at Southeast for string players in high school or college. Students who attend will participate in master classes, technique workshops, mini-recitals, audition tips, and string ensemble music.

Choral Festivals

Here at SEMO, we alternate Treble and Tenor/Bass Choral Festivals each year to allow local middle and high school students to meet other singers, learn how to build community, sing fun music, and work with guest clinicians from around the country! The cost includes a t-shirt, music, snacks, and lunch, and there is no preparation needed for the day.

Past clinicians include Dr. Richard Bjella, Dr. Derrick Fox, Dr. Andrea Ramsey, Dr. Ryan Beeken, and Dr. Kelly Miller.

Signing up is easy and keeps all of your students’ info in one place.  Dr. Barbara Lamont, director of choral activities at SEMO, sends out informational emails in the spring and fall, and the festival is the first week of October.  If you are not regularly receiving these emails, please send a message to Dr. Lamont at blamont@semo.edu and she will add you to the mailing list.  Thank you for your interest in singing at SEMO!
