415 Student Projects to be Displayed at Southeast Missouri Regional Science Fair

The work of 609 students from 37 area high schools and junior high schools will be displayed at the 61st Annual Southeast Missouri Regional Science Fair March 7 in the Show Me Center at Southeast Missouri State University. The fair will feature 415 different displays – 339 in the Junior Division and 76 in the Senior Division. Participating students have explored scientific questions in the behavioral and social sciences, biochemistry, botany, chemistry, earth and space science, engineering, environmental science, math and computer science, medicine and health, microbiology, physics and zoology. Judging will begin at 1 p.m. Exhibits in the Science Fair will be open for public viewing from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., with an awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. Dr. Chris McGowan, dean of the College of Science, Technology and Agriculture at Southeast, serves as the fair’s director. “The Science Fair is an amazing opportunity for students in grades 7-12 to conduct an independent research project and explore the science and mathematics questions of our time,” McGowan said. “The fair allows students to professionally present their hard work and be judged. Hopefully, this experience propels them to consider STEM majors and STEM careers in their future.” Participating schools in the Junior Division will be: Advance R-IV, Bernie Junior High, Bloomfield R-XIV, Clarkton C-4, Delta R-V, Gihring Family Homeschool, Immaculate Conception-Jackson, Jackson R-2 Junior High, Leopold R-3, Malden R-1, Neelyville , North Pemiscot, Oak Ridge R-VI Junior High, Richland R-1 Junior High, Scott City Schools, South Pemiscot Junior High, St. Ambrose School-Chaffee, St. Denis-Benton, St. Vincent de Paul-Cape Girardeau, St. Vincent-Perryville, Ste. Genevieve Middle School, T.S. Hill Middle School-Dexter, Trinity Lutheran-Cape Girardeau, Twin Rivers-R-X Fisk Middle School and Twin Rivers-Qulin. Participating schools in the Senior Division will be: Bernie Senior High School, Clarkton C-4 High School, Clearwater Senior High School, Dexter Senior High School, DeYong Homeschool, Jackson R-2 Senior High, Malden R-1 High School, Oak Ridge R-VI High School, Portageville Senior High School, Richland R-1 High School, Saxony Lutheran High School and South Pemiscot High School.
