Looking for the right ensemble? You'll do that here.

The SEMO Band Program has four main groups. Each lets students perform, grow, and represent SEMO. Band scholarships are available for all groups. Wind Symphony, Marching Band, and Show Band require auditions.

Wind Symphony

The Southeast Wind Symphony is our top wind and percussion group. These college musicians play advanced music, from classic pieces to new works. The Wind Symphony often plays new music first and has been invited to perform at major events. They go on tours, work with guest artists, and play with faculty soloists.

Marching Band

The Southeast Marching Band is the largest student group on campus and a big part of SEMO tradition. This group plays at all home football games, campus events, parades, and high school festivals. Known for energy and skill, the marching band has played at Super Bowl V, in Scotland twice, and at major band events in Indianapolis and St. Louis. Open to all majors, the marching band offers a fun musical and social experience.

Concert Band

The University Concert Band welcomes students from all majors to play many types of wind music. No audition is needed, but students are placed by skill level. Many non-music majors play in this group, which gives concerts each term. Senior music education majors get to lead and conduct this group as part of their training.

Show Band

The Southeast Show Band is a pep band that brings energy to basketball games and campus events. This select group plays exciting versions of popular, rock, and funk music. With a focus on fun and great music, the Show Band gives high-energy performances.

Jazz Band

Southeast's Jazz Band offers two groups: Studio Jazz and Jazz Lab Band. Studio Jazz needs prior jazz experience, solo experience and doubling skills for saxophone. Jazz Lab Band welcomes all students who want to improve their jazz playing. Both groups bring exciting music to University and community events all year long!

I joined SEMO bands for many reasons, but the biggest reason was the sheer quality that every ensemble here has to offer. I was torn between SEMO and another university - until I got to hear SEMO’s marching band play, and I knew I wanted to be a part of that. The people and staff at SEMO are also just so amazing and they will go out of their way to help you and make you feel at home.
