The SEMO Color Guard and Heartland Independent Winter Guard are exciting, fast-growing components of the Southeast Missouri State University Band Program. Whether performing under stadium lights or in a competitive arena, our guard programs combine artistry, athleticism, and storytelling at the highest level.
Fall Color Guard
The Southeast Missouri State University Color Guard is a key part of the largest student group on campus—the Marching Band. They perform at football games, campus events, and regional shows, bringing visual energy to the field. Members come from many different majors, and no experience is needed to try out—just passion and willingness to learn!
To audition, visit the Marching Band Audition Form page. Pick "Color Guard" and watch Luke Christisen's video. Then send your video to ljchristisen@gmail.com. Include an introduction, any related experience, and anything else you want us to know. Auditions are in early June—don't miss your chance!
Winter Guard – Heartland Independent
Started in 2025, the Heartland Winter Guard competes in the Mid-Continent Color Guard Association (MCCGA) and gives powerful performances throughout winter.
In its first year, Heartland won a gold medal with their program "The Bridge Between Us." Led by Luke Christisen, the 15-member team won all their competitions that season.
"This championship is a result of our students’ passion, discipline, and drive to create something truly meaningful."
Jim Daughters - Director of Bands

Who can join the Winter Guard?
The Heartland Winter Guard is open to all SEMO students, regardless of major. Recruitment for next season starts in the fall.
Be Part of the Future of Guard at SEMO
