Welcome to Southeast. We're happy you are starting your college experience here.

Follow the steps below to apply for admission as an undergraduate transfer student. International applicants who have completed any post-secondary education are considered undergraduate transfer students. We can't wait to see what you do!

Students with 24 or more transferable hours

Applicants from regionally accredited colleges or universities who have completed 24 transferable semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale are considered for admission upon presentation of official transcripts showing statements of credits and honorable dismissal. Applicants who have completed fewer than 24 transferable semester hours must also meet the beginning freshmen admission requirements. These students are required to send us their official college or university transcripts (an official high school transcript is not required).

Students with less than 24 transferable hours

Applicants who have completed fewer than 24 credit hours must submit official high school transcripts AND official college or university transcripts and also ACT/SAT scores (when applicable) to the Office of International Admissions. Applicants must have a cumulative transfer GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and will also be reviewed for admission based on beginning freshmen admission criteria.

Credit from other institutions is accepted only to the extent that it counts toward a transfer degree from the accredited U.S. Department of Education-recognized institution where it was earned. Transfer of credit is at the discretion of the Registrar at Southeast Missouri State University.

Step 1: Compile all the Required Documents, and Create Copies of Each in PDF Format

Required application documents include:

  • Official Transcripts
    • Arrange to have official copies of your academic transcripts sent to Southeast.
    • For transfer students, Southeast requires official transcripts to be received directly from the educational institution before admission decisions and transfer credit evaluations can be made.
    • We cannot accept external evaluations instead of transcripts for transfer students.
    • Review the academic credential standards for transcripts to be official. Academic credential standards for transcripts to be official are detailed on our policies and guidelines page
  • Proof of English proficiency
    • Test scores submitted by the applicant are considered unofficial. After the applicant is admitted, official test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency by the deadline listed under policies
  • Financial affidavit and proof of finances
    • Web-only applicants are not required to submit proof of finances
    • Submitted financial documents must be dated within one calendar year of the intended program start date.
  • Passport copy
    • Please include valid passport copies for all dependents listed on your application.
    • A passport must be valid at least six months beyond the intended program start date.
  • Standardized test scores (Optional for admission)
    • ACT/SAT scores are not required for admissions but may be used to qualify for merit-based scholarships and may be used for Math and English course placement.
    • Submitted copies of test scores are considered unofficial. Test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency to be official.  Scholarship determination and course placement will only occur once official test results have been received from the testing agency.
  • Scholarship

  • Upload all required documents in the application.  Important notes:
    • All uploaded files must be in .pdf format
    • If possible, save your .pdf files with your family name and the name of the document (e.g., Smith_transcript.pdf).
    • Be sure to upload the required documents in the correct fields.

After Admission

  • Transfer credit is typically completed two to four weeks from the time of acceptance. Once your transfer credit is evaluated, you will receive an email from the Registrar. You can then find all the details for what courses transfer on your SEMO degree works.
  • Please be advised that you are required to list all schools you have attended in your application.  If you do not disclose previous educational experiences, you can be expelled, denied admission, or refused transfer credit.
  • Southeast does not require a tuition deposit. The first tuition payment is due at the beginning of the first semester.
