Here are the top 10 things to know:

image

1. Support

Your brothers/sisters have your back through good times and bad. Whether you need a study buddy, someone to cheer you on at an intramural game, or someone to support you through the finale of your favorite Netflix series, your Greek family is there for you.

image

2. Leadership

There are leadership positions within each organization. Find your drive, whether it’s t-shirt chair, event planning, community service, alumni relations, choreographer, team captain, judicial board, or president. Wherever your aspirations take you, there is an opportunity to lead.

Take it to the next level! Represent your organization on campus through the Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, or the Panhellenic Council Board. Or continue to represent your organization after graduation at the state and national level!

3. Service [Philanthropies]

Each sorority and fraternity supports at least one philanthropy. They take turns hosting fundraisers and supporting each other’s cause, like the Special Olympics, March for Dimes, or Habitat for Humanity. And of course, you’ll expect some friendly competition.

4. Get Involved

Whether you’re sitting on the sidelines cheering or painting windows for homecoming, there are so many ways to get involved in the Greek community. So, get involved. You’ll look back fondly on those late nights practicing for Greek Week.

5. Academic Standards

Each organization has academic standards for members to follow and they support them through study hours, education programming, and scholarship opportunities. Plus, you can connect with brothers/sisters from your major as a study partner or mentor.

6. Lasting Friendships

Ask anyone in the Greek system, and they will tell you that one of their favorite things about going Greek is the close bond they have with their brothers or sisters. This bond is the foundation of each organization. By going Greek, you’ll connect to people with different backgrounds and experiences and be a part of a community that will last years beyond graduation.

7. Life Skills

What can you learn by going Greek? How about some life skills? We’re talking about those REAL life lessons like how to maintain a full schedule while excelling in class, balancing your budget, hanging with friends, doing laundry, and still having some time left over to give back.

8. Network

Sure, you have brothers or sisters that you’ll get to know on campus, but you’ll also be connected to alumni from your chapter and chapters around the country. That network of professionals has been where you are and would be happy to help make connections for you after graduation.

9. Housing

Need a ride to class, a bowl for mac ’n cheese, a closet to raid? Knock on some doors, and someone on your floor can help you out. Many organizations have housing options where you can live with your brothers or sisters.

10. Fun

And of course, going Greek is a lot of fun! You’ll never be bored because there’s always someone to _____ with!
