Dear Future Redhawk,
Welcome to SEMO! Whether you know it or not, you are on the first steps of your journey to accomplishing a college degree. It may seem a little challenging at first with becoming accustomed to a new place surrounded by a lot of new faces, but in the end, you’ll come to see SEMO as another place to call home.
College can be intimidating. As a freshman, you soon realize there are a lot of choices and responsibilities that you have to make on your own. Do I join this club? Do I take this course? Will I make any friends? All these questions and choices can cause you some anxiety, but I want you to know that it gets better. Every day is an exciting new adventure to learn more about yourself and to make new friends. You’ll soon discover that SEMO is full of kind, friendly people who are always willing to lend a hand.
Here are just a few tips that helped me during my first year:
- Try new things
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions or ask for help
- Manage your time
- Get plenty of rest
- Reach out to your fellow Redhawks
- Make each mistake an opportunity to learn
- Try to think of one good thing about your day
Remember, you’re at the beginning of a whole new journey, so take a deep breath, focus on your goals and prepare yourself to soar.
Best of luck,
Courtney B.
