1. Be Clear and Specific

When asking AI for help, clarity is key. This will help the AI understand your needs and provide more accurate responses.

Example:

Vague: "Can you tell me about campus life?"

Specific: "What are some popular student activities at SEMO during Homecoming week?"

 2. Provide Context

Context helps AI give more relevant answers. If your question is about a particular field or subject, include that information.

Example:

Without Context: "How to get involved at SEMO?"

With context: "In the context of student life, what are the best ways to get involved on campus at SEMO?"

3. Ask Open-Ended Questions

While AI can handle simple questions, it’s also capable of more complex tasks. Asking open-ended questions can lead to more comprehensive and detailed responses.

Example:

Closed: "Is Cardiac Hill steep?"

Open-ended: "What tips do you have for managing the climb up Cardiac Hill at SEMO?"

 4. Break Down Complex Questions

If you have a complex question, break it down into smaller, more manageable parts. This can help the AI provide more thorough and structured information.

Example:

Complex: "Explain the facilities and services available in Towers Dormitory."

Broken down: "What are the room options in Towers Dormitory at SEMO?"

"What dining options are available in Towers Complex?"

"What study and recreational facilities are provided in Towers Dormitory?"

5. Use Keywords

Incorporate relevant keywords in your prompts. This can help the AI focus on the main aspects of your question.

Example:

Without Keyword: "Should I join an organization?"

Keyword-focused: "What are the benefits of joining student organizations at SEMO?"

6. Experiment and Rephrase

Don't be afraid to rephrase your questions if you don't get the answer you were hoping for. Experimenting with different phrasings can often lead to better results.

Example:

First attempt: "How does the library work?"

Rephrased: "Can you explain the borrowing process at Kent Library on SEMO campus?"

7. Utilize AI for Learning and Growth

Use AI as a tool for expanding your knowledge and enhancing your skills. Whether you’re drafting an essay, preparing for a presentation, or seeking inspiration for a project, AI can be a powerful tool.

Example:

Not effective for learning: "Can you do my project for me?"

Effective for learning: "What are some effective strategies for time management for SEMO students?"

SEMO has AI incorporated into our website. You can ask Sadie a wide range of SEMO-related questions when you visit our admissions pages.

AI is a powerful tool for learning and growth, but it's important to use it responsibly. At SEMO, academic integrity is a core value, and AI should be used to enhance your education, not take the place of your hard work. Remember, when in doubt, consult your course guidelines or talk to your professor about the appropriate use of AI in your assignments.
