Hear from a Parent

""As a parent, I entrust my greatest blessings to the staff at University School for Young Children ... We were welcomed with open arms by all teachers, staff, students, and kids. Those we have come in contact with are driven and organized who develop inspiring relationships with the parents and children in their classrooms. The teachers and director look at each child as an individual, with their own strengths and needs. … My twins have been blessed with inspiring teachers who understand their challenges and handle them with grace.""

Our Philosophy

At the University School for Young Children, we believe in creating an environment that promotes active, experiential learning and reflection for learners of all ages. We support positive development by providing stimulating learning environments with rich opportunities for growth and discovery. Our philosophy is grounded in knowledge and theory in child development, early childhood education, and developmentally appropriate practices. We respect all individuals and support the unique abilities and perspectives each brings. We value families and the community and appreciate the multiple contexts that impact development and growth.

Curriculum

The University School for Young Children uses The Creative Curriculum along with other tools and philosophies that are grounded in child development research and theory. For the preschool students, we also include the Missouri Pre-K Standards to guide our curriculum and assessment.

Hear from a Lab Student

"“Being a lab student at the USYC has given me endless opportunities as a college student. Not only have I met amazing teachers and students, my time at the school has assisted me in finding my forever career path. Each teacher that I have studied under has taken me under their wing to ensure that I am succeeding and learning, along with the children in their classes. I am so thankful for the time that I have spent at the USYC.” "

Laboratory School

As a laboratory school, we love having practicum students working in the classrooms as part of their educational experience. These students take lecture courses that correspond with their laboratory experiences. Practicum students provide us with many advantages, including enthusiasm and the introduction of new perspectives. As part of their coursework, they also introduce new learning projects to the children regularly, enriching our curriculum.
