Teaching Philosophy

I believe learning is an interactive process, and students do their best when they ask, share, reflect, collaborate, and inspire. Students achieve higher goals in a supportive environment. While individual persistence is important, teachers’ guidance, support, and stimulation are necessary for students’ ongoing progress. It is my goal to build a positive and respectful learning culture in my classes with student-centered and interactive teaching strategies.

Areas of Teaching and Research Activities

My classes have been mostly on child development and family studies. I am interested in teaching classes about child development, child and family wellbeing, and human development in the life span.
My research has been focused on parental identity, parental mental health, and young children’s social and emotional development. I am particularly interested in studying Asian families.
