The Southeast Missouri State University Cyber Defense team won the Missouri Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) for the eleventh time.
Southeast competed on February 17 and has earned the opportunity to move to the 2024 Midwest Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition Regional. Teams from Illinois, Wisconsin, and Missouri competed to move on to the Midwest Regional.
The objective of the CCDC is to measure a team’s ability to maintain secure computer network operations in a simulated business environment. Students are scored on their ability to detect and respond to outside threats, including cyber-attacks. The competition summary stated that Southeast “practiced with an intense dedication and a well-defined plan.”
“We are very excited to see SEMO’s Cyber Defense team move on in competition,” said Mario Alberto Garcia, director of Southeast’s Institute for Cybersecurity. “Cyber defense is an ever-growing field that we take pride in teaching at the highest level at Southeast. This group is a great example of students taking their education and applying it to real-life situations.”
The regional competition takes place on March 15-16 with winning teams progressing to the national competition on April 25-27.
Southeast is now a 11-time champion of the statewide Missouri Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition.
