Students, family, and all Southeast alumni are invited to campus in October as Southeast Missouri State Univeristy continues to celebrate 150 years, with a Homecoming celebration like no other planned Oct. 12-14.
This year’s Homecoming celebrates Southeast’s sesquicentennial and features a week full of events for alumni and students to celebrate. Some of the Homecoming events have been restructured to create an unforgettable experience throughout campus.
“This year is a big year,” said George Gasser, director of Alumni Relations. “Celebrating 150 years as an instiution deserves a special Homecoming celebration, and we can’t wait to share it with our alumni, students, and community.”
On Thursday, Oct. 12, the Alumni Association will honor five alumni at the Alumni Association Awards Celebration.
“For anyone wanting to enjoy SEMO’s Homecoming this year, we have done the planning for them,” said Gasser. “In addition to the Awards Ceremony on Thursday, Friday will be filled with our alumni speaking to current students in classes. We are also offering alumni the opportunity to take a campus tour or tour some of our innovative learning spaces on Friday afternoon to see how much campus has changed.
Kicking off the weekend will be a first-ever Homecoming Kickoff Block Party on Normal Avenue Friday, Oct. 13. The block party will offer food, local vendors, our SEMO branded spirits and beer partners, activities for kids, and a big announcement at 5:30 p.m. about what’s to come in Southeast’s next 150 years.
Saturday events will remain the same as previous years, with an Alumni Breakfast starting at 8 a.m., the Homecoming Parade at 9:30 a.m. The Homecoming game will take place against Eastern Illinois at 2 p.m. at the new Houck Field.
