The University School for Young Children (USYC) at Southeast Missouri State University has been selected as an exemplary high quality early childhood program by a Conference on the Young Years committee on behalf of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and will be recognized for this status at a state conference next spring.
USYC is one of only four programs in Missouri honored with this designation and has been invited to set up a Showcase Classroom March 8-10 at the Conference on the Young Years at Tan-Tar-A in Osage Beach, Missouri. The School will display an example of its infant and toddler space along with activities, ideas and documentation focusing on its infant toddler units.
When I received notification that we were chosen as the Showcase Classroom I felt honored, humbled and very proud of our staff, said Becky Moore, site director of the University School for Young Children. Our staff work hard each day to provide a learning environment that meets the needs of each individual child, plan curriculum that will challenge the children to meet their fullest potential and provide endless opportunities to grow and develop children into lifelong learners. In addition, they dedicate their time to being effective mentors to future Early Childhood educators, so it was nice to be able to recognize the staff for their hard work.
The USYC will present its Showcase Classroom from 4:45-6:30 p.m. March 8 and from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. March 9. School representatives also will discuss their program with those in attendance.
The University School for Young Children is within Southeasts College of Education and maintains an academic center for the training, research and education of students in early childhood education and child development. The center conducts a nationally accredited early childhood program open to Southeast Missouri State Universitys faculty, staff and students and to the community. The center serves 145 children throughout 11 classrooms with children ages 6 weeks to 5 years.
