Get hands-on, real-world experience in the classroom: You’ll do that here.

We offer a variety of opportunities for our student teachers to develop their knowledge and confidence while progressing through the programs. Students in the Elementary, Early and Special Education programs have multiple courses based in the field, where they work to hone their skills with children in their classrooms. Students in the Elementary, Early and Special Education program spend time in the classroom studying techniques, and time in the field putting those techniques into practice.

EDvolution® Center

Our EDvolution® Center allows our student teachers to learn the technology they’ll use in the classroom and the field. Future educators from Southeast begin their teaching careers with both Google Educator and Apple Teacher certifications.

Office of Field Experiences

Students in the Elementary, Early and Special Education majors will work closely with teachers and students in local schools to gain real-world experience and knowledge they can carry with them into their future careers.

Reading Academy

The Read to Succeed Plus Reading Academy offers children in grades 1-6 the opportunity to improve their literacy skills with the help of our teacher candidates in their last semester before student teaching.

EDhawk Scholars

The EDhawk Scholars program provides student teacher candidates experience in a local school district, networking opportunities, and a guaranteed interview after graduation.

""As an Education major, I loved that SEMO got me into the elementary classroom my first year. Through their 4 Block Student Teaching program, I was slowly worked up to running a classroom by myself and giving me more confidence when I did so. Dr. Larry Bohannon was the best block teacher I had! He had a story of experience for any situation I faced/could have faced in the classroom. He made me feel comfortable and confident in his classroom and in my own classroom. ""
