Pro on the Go Device Initiative
Continue to main contentStudents taking classes within the Department of Mass Media that are at the 300-level and above will be required to have a laptop for use in the classroom during class time. A MacBook Air or MacBook Pro are preferred devices, but students may purchase a PC so long as it is capable of fully utilizing course-related software, including the full Adobe Creative Suite.
The only two 300-level classes that are exempt from this requirement are
- MC304 Diversity in Communication
- UI382 History and Philosophy of American Mass Media
Student laptops should meet the following minimum technical specifications:
Macbook air | macbook pro | Window | |
Storage | 128 GB | 256 GB | 16GB |
Processor | 1.6 GHz | 2.0 GHz | Processor Intel® Core™ i7-12700H |
Memory | 8 GB | 8 GB | 8GB |
Students can purchase their MacBook laptop through a variety of retailers including Apple or the Southeast Bookstore. Purchasing through the Southeast Bookstore would allow students to utilize their student account and the University’s Installment Payment Plan (IPP).
The MacBook laptop was chosen because of its capacity to produce multimedia projects. Mac devices are widely used by professionals in the mass media field. By using one in the classroom, students can begin preparing for their future profession.
Mass Media students will use their MacBook laptop to create a personalized learning experience in a collaborative work environment in order to develop critical 21st-century media storytelling skills.
The hardware and software that is exclusive to the MacBook laptops will be used during class meetings as well as outside of class to complete assignments.
Faculty will be using their MacBook laptops in the classroom in conjunction with the students to initiate teaching and learning that is interactive and on target with what is happening in today’s media industry.
