How do I make an appointment?

To become a new client at the Southeast Missouri State University Autism Center for Diagnosis and Treatment for diagnostic services/therapeutic services, a referral is preferred. A professional/community services referral is requested for diagnostic services; however, parents are welcome to self-refer for treatment if a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder has already been obtained. Once a referral is obtained, the administrative staff will contact the parent/legal guardian to conduct an initial phone consultation. Afterward, the administrative staff will mail the parent/legal guardian a packet of information to fill out. Once the packet is returned to the University Autism Center via mail, fax, or in-person, the client’s name will be placed on an appropriate waitlist or referred to the appropriate clinician/agency.

Who can make a referral?

  • For Diagnostic Services: Physician or community professional (e.g. psychologist, counselors, social workers, educational/childcare staff)
  • For Treatment Services: Physician, community professional, parent/guardian/family member

How long is the waitlist?

Currently, we have a waitlist for diagnostic and treatment services. Although wait times vary, we endeavor to schedule an appointment with you as soon as possible. To get on our waitlist, please call (573) 986-4985 to begin an initial phone consultation. In addition, please have our referral form filled out by your referring provider (physician, counselor, school, etc.).
