At Southeast Missouri State University, it is our mission to provide mental health related services to our students, so they feel safe and prepared as they adjust to college life.

Our counseling staff, licensed counselors, and social workers are experienced in responding to a variety of personal and social issues as well as crisis intervention. Referrals are made to appropriate psychiatric services or other specialists as needed.

The Center for Behavioral Health and Accessibility

The Center for Behavioral Health and Accessibility counseling sessions are provided by license counselors. All sessions are free and strictly confidential.

Counseling Process

Effective counseling is an active process that requires open and honest communication between client and counselor. Together, the client and counselor assess the client's concerns and make decisions for the most appropriate direction for support and/or change.

Southeast offers educational resources to help broaden understanding and address issues that students may experience. Students have access to brochures, educational information, and videotapes about topics such as stress, procrastination, substance abuse, and more. The materials are available for personal use or for class presentations.

Individual counseling is provided at no cost to students enrolled in the current semester. A $25 fee will be charged if a student does not show for an appointment or does not cancel 24-hours before the counseling appointment. A small fee may also be charged for testing services or group services.

For crisis management, contact Center for Behavioral Health and Accessibility at (573) 986-6191 or cbha@semo.edu, or after hours, contact the Department of Public Safety at (573) 651-2911.
