Flowering, an exhibition of ceramics by Allen Chen, will be on display from October 17-December 12 in the Art Annex Gallery!
Flowering is a body of work that traces the rhythmic transformations of Chen’s recent studio output. The forms in this exhibition draw from nature — seedpods, blossoms, and the human body — shaped through the traditional language of utilitarian vessels. He sees these pieces as containers of memory, identity, and emotion: holding, releasing, and reshaping the spaces they occupy.
The idea of “flowering” is both botanical and deeply personal. It offers a way for Chen to reflect on recent life events, where unresolved guilt and trauma resurface. Through the act of making, these experiences no longer remain only painful; with time and care, they reveal themselves as moments of hope. This process allows him to accept what was, while moving forward toward what will be.
Allen Chen will give an artist talk at noon on October 14 in the ARX Gallery. A reception for Flowering will take place on Friday, November 7 from 5-7 p.m.
This exhibition is free and open to the public.
