The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) provides support services for the faculty and staff of Southeast Missouri State University in their pursuit of external funding for research, creative, service and other scholarly activity.

We provide assistance with:

  • funding opportunity searches
  • proposal development, review, approvals, and submission
  • compliance
  • award negotiation
  • non-financial post award activity

All proposals that involve the commitment of University resources, including, but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, facilities, or the use of the University name, must be routed through ORSP for official University approvals prior to submission to funding agency or the lead institution (in instances where the University is a subaward on another organization’s proposal).

Proposals are routed, and often submitted to the sponsor, electronically through the Cayuse system. Full time faculty and internal approvers may access the system with their SE Key (as the Cayuse User ID) and create an individual password. The ORSP staff is happy to assist with uploading documents into the system, in addition to our other services.

When a proposal is funded, ORSP will send the necessary information to the Controller’s Office for account setup. The Principal Investigator will then work with the Grants Accountant assigned to manage the award account. The Grants Accountants are responsible for budget and compliance monitoring for externally sponsored projects.

Academic Research

Southeast Missouri State research projects are led by faculty scholars and often benefit students, even at the undergraduate level. Southeast faculty are mentors, giving valuable hands-on research experiences to students to benefit them in the professional world or as they further their education.
