Health Informatics Student — Harrison College of Business and Computing
What is your major at Southeast and what led you to that?
Health informatics-technology management. I was a former nursing major before transferring to Southeast and I decided I still want to work in the healthcare field but I would like to be the reason the technology side of it expands in the future.
Why did you choose to attend Southeast Online?
I transferred from my community college in my hometown and with Southeast being affordable and also only two hours away from home, it made it both perfect reasons to choose this school. I also travel more than the average person, so being able to take my education with me rather than putting it on hold for trips is the biggest perk.
How would you characterize faculty support received while taking online classes?
The faculty support is the best I've ever seen. I've never been so confident in having so much support from staff that truly wants you to succeed. It's not just being on your own and doing it on your own time, but it's those "good morning student" announcements or even making videos of the tutorials of how to do something and they answer their emails in the same day that make me know I can turn to any of them that has made me beyond happy.
How would you describe your Southeast Online experience?
My southeast online experience has motivated more than ever to finish school. Changing majors, I thought it would be overstretched and I wouldn't like school, but I love being able to brag how easy my classes are and how the staff here want their students to be involved and succeed. Southeast has given me such a great experience that I will forever be grateful for.
What is the most important thing you've learned while taking classes with Southeast Online?
I've learned that life is a walk and not a jog with getting things done the right way. The support that is surrounded with southeast online is very outspoken and it's nice to see the understanding and time that faculty take out to make sure their students have time to get assignments and exams done rather than putting everything with a shorter due date.
Describe Southeast in three words.
Motivating, Successful, Driven.
What is your greatest academic accomplishment?
My greatest academic accomplishment would have to be my health management classes. I thought they would be a hassle to take and I would struggle, but I've never felt that I have done better in courses I have never taken before. I love learning the management courses and what it's like to be a manager in healthcare, and I can't wait to see what it's like after graduation.
How is your online education at Southeast preparing you for your desired career?
My online education has me focused in a literal sense of everything I will be doing for my future career. My goal is to be a health data analyst, and the health management classes on top of the data and programming classes I have give me a sense of what my job will be when I graduate and I'm very much looking forward to taking my education with me in my career one day.
