Mr. Matt Yount, Instructor, functional piano, has been a member of the Southeast Missouri State University music faculty since 2003. He serves as the department’s collaborative pianist, coaching chamber music, teaching studio piano, coordinating recitals, and appearing in recital with colleagues and students. Mr. Yount also performs with guest artists who come to Southeast for appearances in concerts, recitals, or master classes. A relentless performer, he has appeared at Southeast and other colleges, universities, and junior colleges across the region as a concerto soloist, piano recitalist, chamber collaborator, opera accompanist, and as a member of the Southeast faculty jazz quintet. Mr. Yount is also a past winner of the Southeast College of Liberal Arts faculty award for Outstanding Scholarship and Creative Activity in recognition of publishing projects he has undertaken of works by Gabriel Faure and Nicolas Flagello, and he has had original compositions performed in recital here at Southeast. In addition to his primary role as piano faculty, Mr. Yount has since 1996 has taught private piano lessons through the Southeast Music Academy.

A Southeast alumnus, Yount holds three degrees including diplomas in both music and mathematics. As an undergraduate, he studied piano with professors emeritus John Shelton and Jim Sifferman, and was recognized with awards in local and statewide collegiate piano competitions. He has also done professional piano study independently with Professors Jean-Louis Haguenauer and Reiko Neriki at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.
