Instructor of Piano — Music
Mr. Matt Yount is a Southeast alum who holds degrees in both music and mathematics. He joined the Southeast music department faculty in 2005 and was recently recognized for 20 years of service to the university. He is currently our Instructor of Piano and Director of Keyboard Studies, teaching applied piano, chamber music, and group piano classes. Mr. Yount has also served as the department's long-time collaborative pianist, coordinating student degree recitals and performing piano accompaniment for countless student recitals, masterclasses, and intercollegiate competitions. He also frequently performs on piano with music department faculty in recital, along with guest artists visiting Southeast. He completed two years of post-graduate study in the piano studios of Professors Reiko Neriki and Jean-Louis Haguenauer at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, appearing in studio classes and performing there in 2009. In addition to the studio teaching and performing he does at the River Campus, Mr. Yount is also a published arranger and has composed original works performed in recital on campus. Apart from the concert stage, he can frequently be heard playing jazz piano in venues across the region.
