I'm a poet, a professor, and a mom. I grew up mainly in Oklahoma, but my father was military and then worked for the Civil Service, so we moved around a lot. Between childhood and my own adult travels, I've lived in a lot of places: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, New Jersey, New York, Minnesota, South Dakota, and even Germany. I've visited even more, and I value travel and seeing the world from other perspectives.

Beyond writing and literature, I've spent a lot of time working on various publications from school newspapers and magazines to literary journals. My very first job in high school was as a typesetter for a small-town newspaper. But the only thing I've ever wanted to do, the thing I said when first asked in Kindergarten what I'd like to be when I grow up, is a teacher. Here at Southeast, I teach writing and publishing courses.

In my free time (we have free time?), I read and write and crotchet and cook and spend time with my family.
