Heather McMillan, Ph.D.

Heather S. McMillan, PhD, MBA, PHR, CFBA is Interim Chair of the Department of Management and a tenured Professor in the Harrison College of Business and Computing at Southeast Missouri State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Management and Human Resource Development and a collateral in Statistics from the University of Tennessee. Her teaching and research focus on strategic human resource management, organizational leadership, and evidence-based management, with particular attention to the work–life interface, organizational change, and workforce development. Her scholarship has appeared in journals such as Human Resource Development Quarterly, Human Resource Development Review, Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, and Performance Improvement Quarterly. She currently serves as Editor of the Journal of the North American Management Society (JNAMS).

Before entering academia, Dr. McMillan worked in healthcare human resources, including roles as Human Resource Manager for HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital and Compensation and Benefits Coordinator for Frontier Health. Her professional experience informs her applied approach to management education and consulting, particularly in areas such as HR analytics, organizational development, and workforce strategy. In addition to her academic work, she has engaged in consulting and entrepreneurial ventures focused on organizational strategy, analytics, and business development.
