Hi there! I'm Cheryl Alberternst, and I've been a Nursing Instructor at Southeast Missouri State University since January 2012. I hold a Master of Science in Nursing Leadership from Regis University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southeast Missouri State University. I’m really passionate about preparing the next generation of nurses, and I get to do that every day by teaching various nursing courses.

I focus on courses like Frameworks for Professional Nursing Leadership and Management, as well as Gerontological Nursing and Care of Older Adults for our RN to BSN students. I also teach Evidence-Based Practice to graduate nursing students, using the Canvas online platform to keep things engaging and interactive.

Outside of teaching, I'm involved in a few committees within the Nursing Department, including the RN-BSN Curriculum Committee and what used to be the Nursing Lab Committee, now the Simulation Nursing Innovation Center. I’ve earned some certifications along the way, like the NLN Clinical Nurse Educator Certification and Quality Matters certifications as a peer reviewer.

I truly love what I do and strive to inspire my students to embrace the art and science of nursing as they make a difference through their professional journeys.
The most enjoyable part of my life is spending time with my family, especially my grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I love spending time at the beach and the mountains. I enjoy traveling and seeing new things. The most enjoyable part of my life is spending time with my family, especially my grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
