Two graduates of Southeast Missouri State University have been recognized as Outstanding Beginning Teachers by the Missouri Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (MACTE). The annual award honors educators in their first two years of teaching who demonstrate excellence in the classroom and a commitment to student success.
Alyssa Ramsey, a fourth-grade teacher at South Elementary in the Jackson R-2 School District, was praised for her reliability, innovative teaching methods and dedication to her students. Janelle Pope, associate superintendent of Jackson R-2, described Ramsey as "the epitome of a reliable and caring educator," emphasizing her ability to create a supportive and inclusive classroom where every student feels valued.
“Alyssa’s conscientious approach to teaching ensures that every student receives the attention and support they need to thrive,” Pope said. “Her dedication to her students' well-being and academic success is unwavering, creating a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment where everyone feels valued and encouraged to excel. Ms. Ramsey's passion for education and genuine concern for her students make her an invaluable asset to the school community.”
Briana Gadberry, a communication arts teacher at Jackson Junior High, was also recognized for her enthusiasm and commitment to student learning. Pope highlighted Gadberry’s dedication to understanding her students' needs and her drive to make lessons more engaging.
“Ms. Gadberry embodies the motivation, desire to learn and excitement that every new teacher should have,” Pope said. “She is dedicated to understanding and addressing the unique needs of each student when designing her lessons. Ms. Gadberry truly cares about her students and is committed to their growth and success. After only a year in the classroom, her students' growth is evident in state scores. Her creativity and willingness to learn and adapt make her a wonderful addition to our school and students, and she deserves this recognition.”
MACTE is a state affiliate of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and represents educator preparation programs across Missouri. The Outstanding Beginning Teacher Awards are based on recommendations from the honorees' teacher education programs and school districts.
Award recipients received an award packet to commemorate their achievement, including a banner for display in their classroom or school.
