Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) and Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) have partnered to establish a new articulation agreement, creating a seamless transition for students in SWIC’s exercise science program. This agreement allows SWIC students completing a two-year Associate of Science in exercise science to transfer to SEMO and complete a Bachelor of Science in health sciences in just two additional years. The partnership offers SWIC students a streamlined path to continue their education at SEMO, preparing them for advanced career opportunities in healthcare.
“This partnership provides a path to seamlessly transition from an associate degree to a Bachelor of Health Science at Southeast,” said Dr. Kyle Schneider, associate professor and program director of Athletic Training at SEMO. “This is a huge step for the aspiring healthcare professionals that may or may not have considered SEMO an option previously. By streamlining the process, it provides students with a more efficient pathway to enter a healthcare field such as the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program at Southeast or pursue Doctor of Physical Therapy or Doctor of Occupational Therapy programs across the country.”
Dr. David Tomchuk, associate professor in the Department of Allied Health, Kinesiology, and Sport Sciences at SEMO, echoed the sentiment, highlighting how this agreement broadens access to SEMO for regional students. “This partnership provides regional students a solid, affordable option for advancing their education and achieving long-term professional success in an allied health career.”
The new agreement reflects SEMO’s commitment to providing accessible and affordable education while supporting students’ academic and professional goals. This collaboration builds on SEMO’s efforts to foster strong relationships with community colleges, helping students successfully navigate their educational journey and enter competitive healthcare fields. Because SEMO charges one tuition rate nationwide for domestic students, SWIC transfers will not pay out-of-state tuition.

Transfer to SEMO
SEMO’s Admissions Office opened a Transfer Center in November 2023 to help transfer students more fully navigate their college experience at SEMO. Since then, they have helped over 1,000 students make the transition to Southeast. The Transfer Center is a free resource for any student interested in transferring to SEMO.
