Southeast Missouri State University has been recognized among the best regional universities in the Midwest, according to the 2022-2023 U.S. News & World Report. Now in its 39th year, the rankings evaluate more than 1,450 colleges and universities on academic quality.
Southeast was ranked as the 26th best public school and 88th best regional university in the Midwest. Southeast has been consistently ranked by U.S. News since 1993.
“Southeast continues to provide quality academic programs that lead to our students having successful careers,” said Dr. Carlos Vargas, president of Southeast Missouri State University.
Rankings are determined by 17 indicators of academic quality, which then determine overall score.
Southeast also ranked in the top performers on social mobility for regional Midwestern universities. This ranking recognizes universities that are successful at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of students who have been awarded Pell Grants.
Southeast made the rankings for best undergraduate business programs, best undergraduate computer science programs, best undergraduate engineering programs, best undergraduate nursing programs, and best undergraduate psychology programs.
The nursing program moved up 158 spots from the previous year.
“The best thing we see is improvement,” said Vargas. “Our programs are constantly looking for ways to transform and improve so we can prepare students for tomorrow’s careers today.”
U.S. News published the Best Colleges rankings each year to provide prospective students and their families data and information on factors such as graduation rates, social mobility, and graduate indebtedness.
