As Southeast Missouri State University kicks off its fall 2023 semester, the Office of Admissions is busy bringing new visitors to campus with a list of events.
“Our goal every fall is to help families get a feel for what Southeast is all about,” said Lenell Hahn, director of Admissions. “We want to help those thinking about Southeast learn about campus, hear about the successes of current students, communicate with their majors of interest, and see the overall environment we have here on campus.”
Events kick off in September, bringing prospective students and their families to campus and helping answer questions about the Southeast admissions process. Every event on-campus includes a Southeast-experience meal.
SEMO On the Road is the Office of Admissions’ traveling visit. They will be heading to certain cities and hosting get-togethers for high school students and their families to come ask questions and get information about Southeast. This fall, the Office of Admissions will be at the following locations:
- Louis, Missouri – SqWires Restaurant and Market – Sep. 18
- Belleville, Illinois – Eckert’s Country Restaurant – Sep. 19
- St. Charles, Missouri – Quintessential – Sep. 20
- Kennett, Missouri – SEMO Kennett – Oct. 17
- Sikeston, Missouri – SEMO Sikeston – Oct. 18
“SEMO On the Road gives us a unique chance to get to know students in a casual environment,” Hahn said. “Students can come meet with admissions counselors, have refreshments, and ask all their questions about Southeast without having to travel to Cape Girardeau. It’s an easy way to get all the important information before your campus visit.”
The premier visit day is Southeast’s Show Me Day, with three different dates throughout the 2023-2024 school year. In the fall, Show Me Day will be hosted on Oct. 7 and on Nov. 11. Another Show Me Day is set for March 23, 2024.
“Show Me Day is an exciting event,” Hahn said. “We have tours of all our facilities, chances to talk to faculty from all fields, and an academic and student life fair. This day lets families see all our support services and opportunities to be involved while you’re a student at Southeast.”
Visit Friday will be held twice throughout the year to welcome students to campus for an overview of what being a Redhawk is about. Those dates are Friday, Oct. 27, 2023 and Friday, Feb. 2, 2024.
The Southeast Admissions team has a number of days planned for those who are going into specific fields. On Tuesday, Sep. 26 the Holland College of Arts and Media will be hosting an open house for those interested in the arts. Health Professions Day will take place on Friday, Oct. 6 with academic breakout sessions and a campus tour. For anyone interested in education programs, Future Teacher Day will be in the spring on April 5, 2024 and include tours of the EDvolution center and conversations with the Southeast Educator Preparation Programs.
New this year, Southeast will host the First Generation Leadership Symposium. This will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 8 and include a mix of admitted, enrolled, and prospective students who are the first in their families to go to college.
Once a student has applied, they can join the campus community for Admitted Student Day on Feb. 19, 2024. Here, students can take another look at Southeast, get a deeper look into the facilities, and talk with faculty within their specific major. This event is a chance for students to take one last look before making their college decision in the spring.
