Southeast Missouri State University’s Dr. Joel Ramdial was named the Missouri Outstanding Dietitian of the Year by the Missouri Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (MOAND) at the annual conference in Kansas City, Missouri on April 1.
Ramdial is an instructor in the Department of Kinesiology, Nutrition & Recreation (KNR) at Southeast. He’s a licensed and registered dietitian, who finished his doctorate in 2022. He also serves as the president of MOAND.
“Professionally, it is rewarding to see my efforts and acomplishments as president being recognized,” Ramdial said. “Our organization has accomplished a lot this year and as president, I will continue to push our board to accomplish our strategic plan goals until my term ends.”
Ramdial was instrumental in establishing the Master of Science in Applied Nutrition (MSAN) program in 2021 at Southeast. He worked alongside other KNR faculty members, Southeast Online, and department chair Dr. Jason Wagganer to create the program. He now serves as program director. He’s been with Southeast as a faculty member since 2015.
“I think this reflects highly on the quality of faculty in our nutrition unit,” Ramdial said. “We have four registered dietitians who are on the MOAND board or a MOAND committee. We are all highly involved and hope current and prospective students are inspired by our faculty’s involvement and leadership efforts across the state.”
Ramdial has continued his professional success as a field leader in the state of Missouri over the last eight years and plans to continue those efforts. Receiving the Outstanding Dietitian of the Year recognition serves as motivation to continue his success at Southeast and the surrounding communities.
“Winning an award like this is a recognition of things accomplished, but it also indicates the organization has faith in the recipient,” Ramdial said. “This is extremely motivating because it makes me believe I can accomplish more and creates a sense of duty to live up to the expectations of an Outstanding Dietitian of the Year.”
