The work of 323 students from 20 high schools and junior high schools will be displayed at the 66th annual Southeast Missouri Regional Science Fair March 8 at the Show Me Center at Southeast Missouri State University.
The fair will feature 201 different projects – 139 in the Junior Division and 62 in the Senior Division. Participating students have explored scientific questions in astronomy, behavioral and social sciences, biochemistry and microbiology, biomedical and health sciences, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, engineering and robotics, engineering mechanics, environmental engineering, material sciences, math, animal science, energy and physics, and plant sciences.
Judging will begin at noon. Exhibits in the Science Fair will be open for public viewing from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., with an awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Thousands of students over the last 66 years have prepared science exhibits and had their interest piqued by their work to the point that they continued their science education, said Dr. Chelsea Grigery, pediatrician with SoutheastHEALTH and the fairs director.
“Because of this fair, and the scores of others around the country, this nation has benefited immeasurably by the products of minds and hands in research and industry to make mankind’s life incalculably better,” she said. “We commend those participating in this year’s fair and wish all of the students well in their future careers.”
