Ann Hayes, director of University Communications at Southeast, will retire July 31 after 29 years with the University.Hayes joined Southeast in March 1991, when she was appointed News Bureau Director. In December 2017, Hayes was named Director of University Communications, joining the Office of the President and serving as a member of the University Presidents Executive Staff.During her time at Southeast, Hayes has served five University Presidents, and mentored hundreds of students as student workers and graduate assistants. In her role, she served as a spokesperson for the University; managed crisis and emergency communications; and was the University's liaison with radio, television, print and online media throughout the University's service region. In addition, Hayes has been responsible for communicating University news internally to the University employees including managing the University's online news presence, editing and distributing the Newswire, and maintaining the University's Master Calendar.Hayes work has been vital to helping the University showcase student successes, faculty, staff and alumni achievements, and the Universitys history and accomplishments for nearly 30 years.As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there will not be a formal reception to honor Hayes contributions to the University. However, anyone wishing to offer an encouraging word or other appreciation can drop it off at the Presidents Office, located in Academic Hall Room 141, or by mail to One University Plaza, MS 3300, and all items will be delivered to her.
