Evita, the hit musical based on the life of Eva Pern, comes to Southeast Missouri State Universitys River Campus as a part of the 2018-2019 Bank of Missouri Touring Series at 7:30 p.m. March 23 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall.
The Broadway musical tells the life story of Eva Pern, the second wife of Argentine president Juan Pern, and a political leader in her own right. The musical follows her early life, rise to power, charity work and eventual death.
The strength of this amazing play lies in the telling of Eva Perons story and an amazing musical score, including Dont Cry for Me, Argentina, said Bob Cerchio, assistant director of Southeasts Earl and Margie Holland College of Arts and Media. It is a classic Broadway musical, and one not to miss.
Beginning with successful productions in London’s West End in 1978, earning it the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical, Evita opened on Broadway in September 1979, when it was the first British musical to receive the Tony Award for Best Musical.
It had a Broadway revival in 2012-2013 and numerous professional tours, as well as a major 1996 film starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas.
