Sixty-two of 65 students who took the exam passed it, said Dr. Gloria Green, chair of Southeasts Department of Nursing.
Southeasts pass rate exceeds the Missouri rate of 86.99 percent and the national rate of 84.51 percent, she said.
The Department of Nursing has a consistent record of high NCLEX-RN passage rates. For the last 12 years, which includes 24 graduating classes, our first time passage rate average is 91 percent, Green said. The rate for 2015 is an indication that we are continuing to successfully educate and prepare our students for practice.
The students that we admit have proven academic excellence, and a strong desire to make a difference in peoples health and lives, Green continued. We have a strong curriculum, nationally accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), which prepares our students for practice in the current health care climate.
She said Southeast nursing faculty members have clinical expertise and are content experts in every area of nursing.
They serve as mentors and role models for the students, as well as instructors and professors, she said. I believe all of these factors work together to produce graduates who are successfully obtaining licensure and who are employed all over the country.Employer feedback is overwhelmingly positive when referring to our graduates, validating the students, the curriculum, and the program.
The NCLEX-RN is the national licensure examination which allows graduates to be eligible for licensure in any state in the United States. The results announced today, Green said, are for Southeast nursing students who tested for licensure in Missouri.Two additional Southeast nursing students from this same time frame, one testing for licensure in Oregon and another testing for licensure in Minnesota, both passed as well.
The NCLEX-RN is administered for the Missouri State Board of Nursing by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing located in Chicago, Ill. The testing is a computerized adaptive format, meaning that each graduate has a different examination based on the national test plan, how the graduate answers each question, and the difficulty level of each question. The computer automatically shuts off once the candidates success level has been determined. Results are communicated to the candidate via the individual state boards of nursing.
The Southeast Department of Nursing is fully approved by the Missouri State Board of Nursing and accredited by the national organization Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
