Annual Juried High School Student Exhibition
Feb. 2 – March 9, 2025
Reception Feb 2, 2-4 p.m. with Awards at 3 p.m.
The Department of Art + Design presents Exhibiting Excellence: 47th Annual Juried High School Art Exhibition. Beginning Feb. 2, artworks will be displayed at the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.
This is a juried art exhibit for 11th and 12th grade students in southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.
The opening reception will be held Feb. 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. Awards will be presented at 3 p.m. First, second, and third place awards will be presented in the categories of sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, graphic design, mixed media, photography, fibers, digital art, drawing, and painting.
Admission is free and the exhibit runs through March 9.
"Exhibiting Excellence showcases the amazing talent of local students and provides young artists an opportunity to display their work and receive professional and local recognition," said Jim Phillips, museum manager and senior curator. "The students’ artwork is a testament to their abilities and skills, as well as the dedication and encouragement of their teachers."
The juror selecting artworks for this year’s exhibition is Nancy Palmeri, Professor and Chair of the Art and Design Department at Southeast Missouri State University.
Palmeri’s prints have been included in the Istanbul Museum of Graphic Art (IMOGA), the Museo de Artes Contemporaneas Plaza, Bolivia, Proyecto’ace Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, Los Angeles, CA. She is a recipient of the Frans Masereel Graphic Arts Center fellowship in Kasterlee, Belgium, and a Bogliasco Foundation Fellowship in Bogliasco, Italy. She has presented at the Southern Graphics Council. She has lectured and demonstrated her printmaking techniques at The University of Cambridge, UK; Washington University, St. Louis; Pratt Institute of Art, New York; Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA; Cornell University, Ithaca, NY and Boston University, Boston, MA, and Murray State University, Murray, KY.
Solo exhibitions of her work were held in New York, Boston, Louisiana, Texas, Italy, Chicago, and Virginia. Her prints were included in Color Print USA, Lubbock, TX, Global Matrix International Print Exhibition, Perdue University Art Gallery, and the Frans Masereel Graphic Art Center’s Jubilee Exhibition, Belgium. She has also curated three exhibitions in The Gallery at UTA on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington: Anthropology in Print, Pervasive Impressions: Contemporary Political Prints, and Foundations: Mechanics and Instinct. Her prints are in the collections of the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard, Museo de Artes Contemporaneas Plaza, Bolivia, University of Colorado, Boulder Special Collection, University Art Museums, The Royal Museum of Fine Art,
Antwerp, Belgium; the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery, Lincoln, NE; the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, CA; the Hunterdon Art Center, Clinton, NY; the Instituto per la Cultura e l’Arte, Catania, Italy; the UCLA Grunwald Center for Graphic Arts; the University of Miami; and the Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan.

Crisp Museum is located in the Cultural Arts Center at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus at 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
