Are you looking for a flexible learning experience? If you have life priorites that you need to work around but still want to obtain or complete your degree, Southeast has a variety of study options for you. When we say "modality" we are talking about the way a course or a degree program is offered to you, from online, to hybrid, to in person.

Course Formats

BiflexYou can take classes in two ways - online (whenever you want) or in person, or join a live online session. You get to choose how you attend each class, and you can't be forced to go in person.

BlendedSome of your in-person class time is replaced with online activities. The percentage of online time depends on the course. For example, if a regular class meets for 2,250 minutes, a blended course might have some of that time replaced with online activities.

Face-To-FaceYou go to all the classes at the scheduled times and places. Sometimes, you might have assignments to do outside of those class times.

HyflexYou can attend classes in three ways - online, in person, or through a live online session. You choose how you attend each class, and you can't be forced to go in person.

OnlineYou don't have to go to campus or attend at a specific time. Assignments have deadlines, but you can complete them within a set timeframe. The teacher interacts with you regularly. Check the portal for guidelines on online courses. They can be found by searching “Online Course Procedures.”

WebinarThese are live online courses at specific times. All the meetings are online; you don't have to be at a physical location.

Program Formats

Southeast provides various learning options, and they also offer different types of programs for you to choose from. In this context, a program refers to a predetermined set of courses taken in a specific learning format.

Face-to-Face ProgramsIn these programs, students attend some of their courses in person at specified locations, times, and days. Face-to-face program students can also take Hyflex and online courses as needed, providing flexibility based on their student type. These programs should have enough in-person offerings to accommodate compliance requests for military and international students, among others.

Online ProgramsStudents in online programs can complete all their courses without attending real-time meetings. They have the flexibility to take Hyflex courses, which offer an asynchronous option. If necessary for specific degrees or minors, they can also request to take a face-to-face class.

Hyflex ProgramsIn a Hyflex program, students can complete their degree by taking all core classes in various modes—online (asynchronous), face-to-face, or via webinar (synchronous online). Students can also take other course types (face-to-face, online) as needed for specific degrees, minors, tracks, or options.

Regional Campus ProgramPrograms offered at regional campuses can be delivered in different modes, including face-to-face, blended, or Hyflex. Refer to the definitions provided above. Students will meet at the specified location if any course is taught face-to-face. Campus codes include S for Sikeston, PB for Poplar Bluff, and K for Kennett.
