Prospective Student Government Association Executives and Senators
Elections for the Student Government Association Executive Board occur every spring
semester.
The President, Vice President, and Treasurer of the Student Government Association
are voted on by the entire student body. (Other Executive Board Positions: Secretary,
Chief of Staff, Parliamentarian, Student Issues Committee Chair, Special Projects
Committee Chair, and University Affairs Committee Chair are appointed by the President).
1.) Steps to file for 2019-2020 President, Vice President, or Treasurer Positions:
- Successfully complete the statement of candidacy form at the bottom of this page between
Monday, January 14 and Monday, March 1st at 5:00pm.
- Within three days of filing the above material, the Elections Committee shall determine
eligibility of candidate and officially verify or not verify candidate ability to
run for office.
- If verified, prepare and execute campaign for office one month before election days;
closely following eligibility qualifications and campaign regulations set forth by
the Elections Committee. (For more information reference bylaw 405.01).
- Partake in scheduled, mediated debate between candidates should there be multiple
candidates running for the same office.
- Be mindful that general election voting occurs online via SELink on April 3th and 4th.
- If elected, upon conclusion of election; meet with predecessor to be transitioned
into new role.
- Attend end of the year Student Government Association banquet to be sworn into new
position.
- Await first senate meeting of the next semester for pending approval of 2/3rds of
student senate.
Prospective Student Government Association Senators
Elections for the Student Government Association Senate occur every semester.
The Student Government Association Senators representing specific colleges and schools
are voted on by their constituents in their respective college or school. Should there
be an open position on the student senate a special election occurs.
2.) Steps to file for Fall 2019 General Election Senator Position:
- Successfully complete the statement of candidacy form at the bottom of this page before Monday,
March 1st at 5:00pm.
- When filling out the statement of candidacy form below put the current date in place
of "election date" if you are doing a rolling application for the current semester.
- Within three days of filing the above material, the Elections Committee shall determine
eligibility of candidate and officially verify or not verify candidate ability to
run for office.
- If verified, prepare and execute campaign for office one month before election days;

Prospective Student Government Association First Year Senators
First Year Senators have a specific selection process which at begins at the start
of every school year.
3.) Steps to file for Fall 2019 First Year Senator Position:
- Successfully complete SElink application before 5:00pm on Sunday, January 20th
- Schedule an in-person interview with First Year Senator selection committee online
- Attend interview during selected time and date
- First Year Senator selection committee deliberates results after conclusion of all
interviews
- Await phone call or email from Vice President regarding status of selection
- If selected, candidate names will be recommended to the Student Senate for confirmation
by majority vote
- If confirmed by Student Senate, First Year Senators begin serving
