I earned my bachelor’s degree in communication studies with a focus on rhetoric and public speaking from Southeast Missouri State University, where I also completed my master’s degree in English. During my time at SEMO, I worked at the Center for Writing Excellence—first as an undergraduate tutor for two years and then as a graduate assistant for another two years while completing my graduate program.

Beyond my academic and professional work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter, and our four cats. I can often be found walking around campus or in the surrounding community, as sunshine and exercise are two of my favorite forms of self-care.

Best Advice for Students

College is one of the first places where you truly get to take ownership of your learning. Your professors and advisors are here to guide and support you, but ultimately, your education belongs to you. Ask questions when you are confused and seek resources before challenges become setbacks.
