Don't Dump, Donate Raises $2,400 for Community Caring Council
06/06/2017

This year’s Don’t Dump, Donate initiative, which provides students moving out of the residence halls an opportunity to donate their unwanted or unused items to a good cause, filled three 17-foot box trucks. All of these items were taken to the Community Caring Council, which organized and held a public garage sale May 18-19. The garage sale offered the collected items at a low cost for anyone to purchase. This year, the garage sale raised $2,400 — the most ever — for the Community Caring Council, which their organization will reinvest back into their clients in most need of assistance. The Office of Residence Life is proud to be able to provide residents an opportunity to donate to a good cause like the Community Caring Council, which serves many needs in the Cape Girardeau community. Residence hall students often find they cannot return home with everything they came to Southeast with due to a lack of space in their personal vehicles, so having residents donate items they would otherwise throw away in the trash is a wonderful way for residents to give back to the community, while reducing the items thrown away in dumpsters. The goal of the program is to provide items to those in need here in the Cape Girardeau area, through a partnership with the Community Caring Council.
