Dr. Judy Wiles Named Interim Dean of Harrison College of Business
05/05/2017

Dr. Judy Wiles, chair of the Department of Management and Marketing and director of the Douglas C. Greene Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Southeast Missouri State University, has been named interim dean of the Donald L. Harrison College of Business at Southeast. Dr. Karl Kunkel, Southeast provost, announced the appointment, also acknowledging that the recent national search for a new dean was not successful. Open forums with three finalists for the position were held in February. “I am very pleased that Dr. Wiles accepted my offer to serve as interim dean of the Harrison College of Business next year,” Kunkel said.  “She has shown strong leadership during her time as a department chair in the college and has the respect of our business faculty.  I have strong confidence in her ability to provide strong leadership during the period while we continue searching for the next dean.  We plan to launch another national search beginning as early as possible in the fall.” Wiles’ appointment is effective July 1 and ends July 1, 2018, or earlier if a permanent dean is seated. Dr. Gary Johnson currently is serving as interim dean of the Harrison College of Business following the death March 5 of Dr. Gerald McDougall. Johnson recently submitted notice of his retirement effective at the end of the coming fall 2017 semester. He will continue to serve in the capacity of interim dean until Wiles’ appointment begins in July. Dr. Kevin Dickson, professor of management and director of the Jane Stephens Honors Program, will assume the position of interim chair of the Department of Management and Marketing under the same timeline. “I want to express my sincere appreciation to the search committee – Dr. Chuck McAllister (chair), Chris Martin, Sue Wilde, Rebecca Ott (student member), Dr. Roberta Humphrey, Dr. Willie Redmond and Dr. Judy Wiles for their diligent work” conducting the search this academic year, Kunkel said. “The amount of time and energy necessary to be involved with this type of search is significant, and I recognize as well as appreciate the dedication and professionalism of this group.” Wiles is a professor of marketing at Southeast where she has been teaching for 32 years. She received her doctorate in business administration from the University of Memphis in 1993. She holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, both from Southeast. Prior to teaching full time, she co-owned and managed an advertising agency and a promotional products sales firm for 10 years. Wiles is the past president of the Marketing Management Association (MMA). She is a founder and past president of the Tri-State Advertising and Marketing Professionals and past president and on the advisory board of MBAA International. She has published articles in the Journal of Advertising Research, European Journal of Marketing, Current Issues and Research in Advertising, Journal of the International Academy for Case Studies, Academy of Marketing Studies Journal and Business Insights. She has presented and published papers in the areas of business ethics, advertising and promotion management.
