DPS Staff Training on Transgender Issues, Hate Crimes
03/31/2017

International Transgender Day of Visibility is March 31. The Department of Public Safety works hard at building trust and rapport with students, faculty, staff, community members, victims and witnesses of crime. To strengthen mutual respect and understanding, all DPS officers are currently training about the transgender community. This training focuses on properly identifying and responding to hate crimes to serve students more effectively. Additional topics include relevant terminology, working to understand misconceptions that impact the prevention of and response to hate crimes, and developing strategies and resources for successful collaboration. A connected network now improves communication and relationships when incidents arise. Contact Beth Glaus in the Department of Public Safety at (573) 651-2963 for more information.
