Award Winning Poet, Essayist, Short Story Writer to Visit Southeast

Brad Aaron Modlin, winner of Southeast Missouri State University Press’s Cowles Poetry Book Prize and winner of “The Cupboard’s” The Sixth-Ever Cupboard Contest will perform a public reading from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, in Crisp Hall, Room 125. The event is free and open to the public and is funded by the Dorothy and Wedel Nilsen Visiting Writers Series and Southeast Missouri State University Press. Modlin is the author of the book “Everyone at This Party Has Two Names,” which won the Cowles Poetry Prize and his chapbook of short fiction, “Surviving in Drought,” was recently published as volume 28 of “The Cupboard.” His fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction have appeared in “Fourth Genre,” “River Teeth,” “Threadcount,” “The Pinch,” “DIAGRAM” and others. He earned his Master of Fine Arts from Bowling Green State University and his doctorate from Ohio University. He currently teaches creative writing and gets chalk all over himself at Missouri Western University. A book signing will follow the reading, and books will be available for purchase at the event.
