Delphi Trio Performing April 2 in Chateau Girardeau 'Sundays at Three' Series

The Chateau Girardeau 'Sundays at Three' series will host a performance by the Delphi Trio April 2 at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus. The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall. Delphi Trio The featured artist, the Delphi Trio, is composed of Liana Bérubé, violin, Michelle Kwon, cello, and Jeffrey LaDeur, piano. Bérubé, Kwon and LaDeur are graduates of the University of Toronto, Stanford University and the Eastman School of Music, respectively. The Delphi Trio formed while studying in the Chamber Music Program at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. The trio is grounded in the immensely rich classic repertoire for piano trio and is committed to the exploration of its deep, lasting meaning for performers and audience alike. The Trio sees contemporary music as a natural extension of the standard repertoire and is therefore dedicated to the music of the current age. Delphi has given acclaimed world premieres of Max Stoffregen’s “Coyote Plan” (2013) and Sahba Aminikia’s “Deltangi-ha” (2012) and “Shab o Meh” (2014), and is premiering William Bolcom’s “Piano Trio” this season. The Delphi Trio believes chamber music is an ideal model for education. As chamber music faculty at the Crowden School in Berkeley, California, the Trio regularly coaches and mentors musicians of all ages. Delphi is committed to supporting young artists as they begin their careers and has established their Emerging Artist Program to guide collegiate students through their first independent public concert experience. The Trio also curates the Practice Project, a social media group dedicated to fostering community, openness, and vulnerability among both professional and amateur artists. The ensemble is built on trust and communication; to that end, each Delphi rehearsal starts in the same way - a meal, conversation and music. The Delphi Trio won the 2015 Orlando Concours in the Netherlands, and has performed throughout the region to great acclaim, including a live broadcast for Dutch Radio 4. Their 2016-2017 season highlights include the world premiere of William Bolcom’s “Piano Trio;” an evening of solo concerti by Schumann, Bernstein and Shostakovich with the San Jose Chamber Orchestra and Barbara Day Turner; a recording project with indie rock artist John Vanderslice and composer Max Stoffregen; the West Coast premiere of Paul Juon’s “Episodes Concertantes” (1912) with Michael Morgan and the Oakland Symphony; and performances throughout the United States, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Liana Bérubé Canadian violinist Liana Bérubé’s love of performance began when she was six years old and has since taken her around the world. She has performed in many of the world’s greatest concert halls, and her performances have been broadcast on CBC radio, NPR, VH1 and TED.com. A highly-sought after recording artist, Bérubé has appeared on dozens of albums, including Death Cab for Cutie's Grammy-nominated “Codes and Keys.” Bérubé is equally enthusiastic about all kinds of music, and her activities take her from her work with the Delphi Trio, to orchestral leadership in the San Jose Chamber Orchestra and the Oakland East Bay Symphony, to performances in a multitude of non-classical genres as concertmaster of the Magik*Magik Orchestra in San Francisco. An alumnus of the studios of David Zafer and Annalee Patipatanakoon at the University of Toronto, Bérubé completed her Master of Music in Chamber Music Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, studying under Axel Strauss. Michelle Kwon Bay Area native Michelle Kwon holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Music in violoncello performance from Stanford University and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and studied with Christopher Costanza and Jennifer Culp, respectively. She is a founding member of the Delphi Trio, and also has collaborated with many folk and jazz artists. She also has performed as a Fellow at both the Tanglewood Music Festival and the Banff Centre for the Arts. An equally enthusiastic orchestral player, she performed with the inaugural YouTube Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall and holds positions with the Oakland East Bay Symphony, Monterey Symphony, Fresno Philharmonic and the San Jose Chamber Orchestra. She is also a member of the Magik*Magik Orchestra of San Francisco. She has recorded for two Grammy-nominated albums, as well as for the Naxos label. Jeffrey LaDeur Jeffrey LaDeur enjoys a busy career as soloist, chamber musician and educator. He has performed with the Eastman Philharmonia, San Jose Chamber Orchestra, Oakland East Bay Symphony and Denver Philharmonic, collaborating with esteemed conductors Neil Varon, George Cleve, Michael Morgan and Lawrence Golan. LaDeur has performed in recitals throughout the United States, including appearances at the Terrace Theater at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Dakota Sky International Piano Festival, PianoForte studios in Chicago broadcast live on WFMT and at the University of California-Santa Cruz, where he has served as Artist in Residence since January 2014. A passionate chamber musician, LaDeur is a founding member of the acclaimed Delphi Trio. At the invitation of the Naumburg Foundation, he recently made his Carnegie Hall debut performing with violinist Ian Swensen and the Telegraph Quartet. LaDeur earned his undergraduate degree at the Eastman School of Music, studying with Douglas Humpherys and earned a master’s degree in chamber music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, studying with Yoshikazu Nagai. LaDeur received his formative musical training from Mark Edwards and Annie Sherter, a student of Vlado Perlemuter.
