DPS Urges You To Learn Tornado Terminology
03/13/2017

Southeast's Department of Public Safety urges you to learn tornado terminology. A Tornado Watch means tornadoes are possible. Remain alert for approaching storms. Watch the sky and stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio, commercial radio, or television for information. A tornado watch defines an area where tornadoes and other kinds of severe weather are possible in the next several hours. It does not mean tornadoes are imminent -- just that you need to be alert and prepared to go to safe shelter if tornadoes do happen or a warning is issued. This is the time to review your plan for tornado safety, such as making sure you have ready access to safe shelter, and to make your friends and coworkers aware of the potential for tornadoes in the area. A Tornado Warning means a tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar. Take shelter immediately.
