Sculptor Tom Stancliffe Speaking on Public Sculpture at Catapult
02/21/2017

Tom Stancliffe, professor of sculpture at the University of Northern Iowa, will visit Southeast Missouri State University’s Catapult Creative House March 2 to speak on “Public Sculpture: Collaborations Across Communities.” Stancliffe’s visit is scheduled for 7-8:30 p.m. at 612 Broadway in downtown Cape Girardeau. Stancliffe’s guest lecture coincides with “Public Art: The Art of the Proposal,” the current display in Catapult’s art gallery.  This display features work by Stancliffe and other public sculptors. Stancliffe will speak about his experience in public art.  He has been instrumental in public art endeavors, initiating reputable outdoor sculpture exhibitions, large-scale commissions and innumerable student opportunities. Stancliffe also created the Public Art Incubator at the University of Northern Iowa, giving art students the invaluable, hands-on experience of working alongside professional artists in the creation of large-scale sculpture. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Illinois State University and a Master of Fine Arts from Northern Illinois University. The presentation is open to the public and is hosted by the Catapult Gallery.
