06/14/2017
Southeast Missouri State University has announced the appointment of Beth Glaus, interim director of the Department of Public Safety (DPS), to the permanent position of Director. The appointment was effective April 1, 2017. The position had been vacant since Dec. 1, 2015, when former director Doug Richards retired. Glaus is a 1981 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice, and has been with DPS since January 1988. During that time, she has served as manager of Parking and Transit, police communications supervisor and emergency preparedness coordinator. Glaus will have administrative oversight of Southeast’s Department of Public Safety, which includes University Police, Parking Services, Transit Services and Emergency Preparedness. Prior to her tenure with Southeast, she served as dispatcher and in the evidence unit as a clerk and fingerprint examiner with the Cape Girardeau Police Department. With the recent retirement of the Captain of Police Operations March 31, 2017, Southeast announces that Captain Kenneth Gullett assumes the roles of both police operations and special event services and will serve as the law enforcement contact for the Department of Public Safety. Gullett attended Southeast Missouri University and is a 1991 graduate of the Southeast Missouri Law Enforcement Academy. Gullett joined the DPS staff in 1988 as a non-commissioned security officer. Since that time, Gullett has progressed through the department, attaining the rank of captain in August 2015. With Glaus' move to director of the Department of Public Safety, Frannie Helton has been appointed manager of Parking Services. Helton began working for the Department of Public Safety as a student dispatcher during the fall semester of 1987, graduating from Southeast, with a bachelor’s degree in 1989. She was hired after graduation in 1988 as the data entry specialist, a position she has held for 28 years before becoming manager of Parking Services. During this time, Helton has coordinated the distribution of all Southeast parking decals and tickets. Having served on various University committees, she also represents Southeast in the Campus Parking and Transportation Association.
