‘Following the Curve’ Opening June 2 at Catapult

The Catapult Creative House Student Studios will hold their final spring 2017 Artist of the Month exhibition, “Following the Curve,” on Friday, June 2. The exhibition will feature the work of Southeast Missouri State University artist Jessica Lambert and will open the First Friday in June. Exploring the relationship between space and form, sculptor and printmaker Lambert harnesses the essence of one of nature’s most ubiquitous shapes, the curve. Lambert’s sculptures invite the viewer to experience the dichotomy between static space and fluid form, creating moments of spatial distortion that simultaneously expand and contract. Complementing the sculptures, Lambert’s monochrome prints live in an ethereal moment between the artist’s mark and those created by nature; evoking the spirit of the currents in a stream and the rings of a tree. Each month and as a part of a program to promote community-based and integrated art making, a student artist is chosen to exhibit their work at Catapult Creative House’s Student Studio Gallery. These exhibitions showcase a range of work from individual artists that highlights their personal and professional artistic explorations as a part of the Southeast Missouri art community. These artists explore the physicality of the human condition, its relationship to nature and the role of art in contemporary society. In addition to the exhibition, attendees are welcome to tour the studio spaces, view ongoing projects and engage with the artists. In connection with the exhibition reception the Catapult Creative House Student Studio artists and Catapult jewelry artists are proud to present their Studio Pop-Up Shop. In June, the Pop-Up retail space will present the opportunity for visitors to purchase one-of-a-kind prints, handcrafted jewelry, wearables, as well as ceramics and additional unique works of art created by the participating artists. The exhibition reception is scheduled for June 2, from 5-9 p.m., and is located on the second floor of Catapult Creative House at 612 Broadway in downtown Cape Girardeau.
